Anu Wahab, Software Engineer and Publisher of Rym Magazine, and Michael Oshosanya, Information Technology Personnel of Wecycler facilitated in different sections of the monthly Volunteers’ Training (VT) organised by the Pyramid Educational Advancement (PEA) Foundation on the 5th of August, 2017.
Michael Oshosanya presentation was focused on punctuality, documentation and communication. He said that being late to appointments is bad, and it may affect the way others would respond to one in the area of punctuality when one fix appointments with them.
In addition, he made mention of the importance of documentation through the use of sticky notes or jotter when one is assigned to do a particular thing because it is good to put into writing the things that one needs to do, and keep or stick them in a place where one can see them often, in other for one to remember to do what one need to do on time before the deadline.
Furthermore, Michael said that communication is key in every organisation because whatever one find challenging in the course of one’s job needs to be clearly communicated to the person who assigned one to the task so that one does not get blamed for the task not getting done before the deadline.
Anu Wahab presentation centred on Time Management and Interpersonal Skills in which he said that time management is a key to accomplishing one’s goals. He made mention of making use of the Short Run Goals on time management to achieve one’s Long Run Goals on time management by writing one’s to-do list daily, and trying to accomplish them but if one could not accomplish some then one should not blame oneself but reschedule that day’s goal or task for another time or day. He added that the accomplishment of the Short Run Goals daily would help one improve on time management which would make it easier for one accomplish one’s Long Run Goals in life because it is easier to fail on goals concerning one, than to fail on goals or task that may affect others. One must develop the ability to read and apply in order to increase one’s personal development and skills. Google should be one’s best friend because you can learn whatever one just by typing it on Google and You-tube.
Anu said that interpersonal skills has to do with how one communicate. In a formal setting/gathering one needs to speak with good vocabulary and diction. Therefore, it is necessary an individual make effort to work on one’s diction and vocabulary. Interrupting (talking back) in a one-on-one conversation shows that other party is not listening. He also mentioned the skills that help one communicate and relate with people which are: confidence, active listening, caring, collaboration, communication, conflict management, conflict management, patience, conflict resolution, constructive criticism, counselling, creative thinking, customer service, encouraging, human resources, humour, instructing, mediating, motivating, and networking.On a whole, the PEA Foundation Volunteers’ Training was enlightening and educative.
