Mentoring is a supportive one-on-one relationship between an accomplished individual and an inspiring individual to facilitate the aspirants (students) growth and development. A mentor is a trusted counselor or guide, an advisor committed to the growth of another individual. The mentoring program is designed to ensure that certain areas of the mentees’ life are covered during the duration of their interactions thus Academics, Career Guide, Personal Development and Social Adjustment.
The mentoring evolved from the Oral Interview assessment and subsequently the Academy, where we discovered the need for a one-one platform for young people to interact with older ones. The older ones should operate in a similar career that the youth aspires to as well as possess values that are consistent with those of the PEA Foundation.
We have designed frameworks and rules that will facilitate the attainment of the mentoring goals but it is worthy of note that those frameworks and rules are not yet cast in stone but evolving till we are able to achieve our set goals.
The benefits of the Mentor-a-Child program are quite numerous for the mentees and some of them include improved self esteem, development of personal vision, access to mentor’s intellectual and material resources, career guidance to mention but a few. For the mentors, the benefits include development of leadership capacity, personal satisfaction and fulfillment.
